Cornflower – limited edition linocut print
Limited edition of 50.
This cornflower print is inspired by my love of nature and all things blue. I drew, carved and printed the image on Somerset Satin 300gsm paper using Ironbridge relief ink in blue-black and a bespoke blue-purple made from Cranfield inks. The paper measures 10x15cm including four deckled edges. The print itself measures 4x10cm. Each print is titled, numbered and signed by me.
Hard to believe, but according to The Wildlife Trusts the cornflower was once considered a weed and almost entirely lost as a wildflower in the UK due to intensive farming.
It’s a scrappy species, though, most often found on roadsides, verges and waste ground. Every summer a little spray of them pop up along my road. It typically symbolises hope, tenderness and fidelity.
Printmaking with lino is a manual craft that requires specialist tools and inks. The nature of the process means that each print is unique and may feature some speckling in the ink. This is part of what makes this artform so beautiful. Please note there may be slight variations from the print in the photo.
This is an unframed linocut print and I will send it to you in a compostable protective sleeve backed with card and a board-backed envelope to keep it sturdy and ready to frame or give as a gift.
