Anemone – limited edition linocut print
Limited edition of 50.
This anemone is inspired by my first cat. I drew, carved and printed the image on Somerset Satin 300gsm paper using a bespoke purple mixed from Cranfield inks. The paper measures 15.5x20.5cm and has four deckled edges. The print itself measures 9x15cm. Each print is titled, numbered and signed by me.
I grew up with cats and dogs and have shared space with pets almost all my adult life. As soon as we could, we got cats – two sisters, one of whom had the show name Anemone.
We called her Java and she was a tiny, very fluffy Birman with the biggest blue Manga eyes you ever saw and an even bigger (noisier) personality. While her sister sadly died very young, Java made it to the grand old age of 17 – not bad for the runt of her litter. Birmans are unique cats, not just because of the fact that they retain their blue eyes, but because they are quite dog-like in the way they enjoy human company. Java always made it clear when she thought you should be sitting down so she could sit on your lap. I miss her terribly.
Printmaking with lino is a manual craft that requires specialist tools and inks. The nature of the process means that each print is unique and may feature some speckling in the ink. This is part of what makes this artform so beautiful. Please note there may be slight variations from the print in the photo.
This is an unframed linocut print and I will send it to you in a compostable protective sleeve backed with card and a board-backed envelope to keep it sturdy and ready to frame or give as a gift.
