Gold and black gingko leaf
This A6 card features an original linocut print of a gingko leaf, hand drawn, carved and printed by me. It comes with a matching envelope and includes a cream insert made from 120gsm Munken Pure paper that I have hand sewn into the card (colour of thread dependent on what I have available, but will be complementary). It is blank for your own message.
The gingko leaf is printed on 290gsm FSC certified paper using Cranfield traditional relief ink in gold.
Also known as the maidenhair tree, the Ginkgo biloba is native to China and one of the world’s oldest living tree species. The tree pre-dates the dinosaurs with leaf fossils found that are more than 200 million years old. I have always been fascinated by this tree and its beautiful fan-shaped leaves. Seeing a gingko with a full head of ‘hair’ is always a joyous experience and I love the way the leaves turn from gorgeous lime green to delicate yellow in autumn.
Printmaking with lino is a manual craft that requires specialist tools and inks. The nature of the process means that each card is slightly different and may feature some speckling in the ink. This is part of what makes this artform so beautiful. Please note there may be slight variations from the card in the photo.
I will post it in a compostable sleeve and board-backed envelope to protect it.
